Festive Christmas Brunch at Goldfinch Brasserie (Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam)

I can’t believe it is already November. The holiday season is approaching fast and so are the events to celebrate. The Waldorf Astoria in Amsterdam has an especial 5 course menu for the 25th of December at their Goldfinch Brasserie.

Their festive menu consists of a Coconut Snowman filled with shrimp, a Black Truffle Benedict with hazelnut hollandaise, Pork belly with beetroot & terragon, Lobster & chorizo puffed pastry with bonito flakes & a Christmas tree made with 64% Manjari chocolate and mandarin.

The cost of this Christmas brunch is €99.

Peruvian Dinner at Callao (the Hague)

Last Friday we were invited to have dinner at Callao, a Peruvian restaurant by chef Jaime Pesaque (Also chef of Mayta, Nr 49 of Latin America’s 50 Best restaurants 2019). It was a especial evening since Jaime and Jose del Castillo (Chef of Isolina, Nr 12 of Latin America’s 50 Best restaurants 2019) were both in NL cooking a set menu that night.

The evening started with a Pisco Sour workshop made with chicha morada (Peru’s national drink made with dried purple corn and spices). Then we got a demo of how to make a causa with seared tuna by Jaime. And how to make a ceviche carretillero (with fried calamari) by Jose.

The best part was of course getting to taste them. I haven’t been in Peru in 5 years so I’m always excited to eat my country’s food. The whole evening was a delicious treat. The actual diner entailed of classic ceviche. A vegetarian tiradito made with roasted heart of palm. A more cold weather kind of causa with mushrooms and crispy kale. The mains were beef rib seco and aji de gallina. And for dessert we had manjar de lucuma.

Callao is located at the fishing port in the Hague. It has only been open for a few months and it is definitely worth a visit if you are craving Peruvian food, or just want to give it a try.

Lindt Store Amsterdam

Today opened the first Lindt store in Amsterdam. It is located on Heiligeweg 22, where the Le Creuset store used to be.

I personally love their chocolates. I always found it a bit of shame that you couldn’t find a lot of flavors in the supermarket. But now with the new store, you have a lot to choose from in one place. And since they opened just before the holiday season, they also have a selection of chocolates for Christmas time. Chocolate heaven in Amsterdam!

Dom Pérignon Vintage 2009

A couple of weeks ago, Dom Pérignon launched their Vintage 2009 limited Edition with a dinner at the Conservatorium Hotel.

Dom Pérignon has been working for years with well-known artists like Karl Lagerfeld, Andy Warhol and David Lynch. This year they enlisted the talents of designer Tokujin Yoshioka. Their Vintage 2009 Edition celebrates the sunlight that embraced the Champagne region during the harvest year. Tokujin reinterpreted the brand’s shield label into a three dimensional hologram that sparkles with iridescent color. He also created Prism, by working with his signature crystal prism to project a vibrant spectrum reminiscent of the sun that gave the wine its rich complexity.

As you guys already know, I am a fan of Chef Schilo’s cooking, and this evening was filled with delicious pairings. From Fruits de Mer, to Alaskan black cod with miso and Hida Gyu Wagyu beef bourguignon. The night ended with a chocolate, avocado and of course Dom Pérignon dessert. It was a very memorable evening!

Food Photography Background Tutorial + First Vlog

A long time ago, I used to have a tutorial here on how to make a food photography background but I decided to erase it since the quality of the video wasn’t very good. I’ve been wanting to make a proper one since then. So I decided to include it on my first vlog. I thought of  showing you guys a bit more of my daily life, from events to restaurants, to some cooking and traveling. On this one we went zip lining in the Hague, tried some new restaurants and visited the blue forest in Belgium.

So if you would like to see/know anything in particular, do let me know.

Processed with Snapseed.

I often get asked where do I get my props. I often get them online, at little shops or sometimes at flee markets. I recently found a nice online shop from the States called Eating Tools that sells cooking and eating utensils. They are all handcrafted by different artisans all around the world, so each piece is quite unique. I got the copper bowl and titanium chopsticks in the picture above from that shop. You can find the recipe for the cucumber noodles with miso roasted salmon here.

SNCKBR, the healthy all day cafe, now has a new location at the Kinkerstraat in Amsterdam West. I was invited to a dinner tasting, while they were still doing the final touches on the new location, hence all the tools in the background. The food they serve is really good and they have a good variety of vegetarian and some vegan options too. So it is definitely worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood. It was too dark to take a decent picture of everything that we ate, but if you follow my Instagram stories, you’ve probably already seen it.

Last week I also went to a beauty event organized by Elle magazine and Yves Saint Laurent. It was to celebrate the launch of their new lipstick Vernis a Lèvres Vinyl Cream. So we got some tips from make up artists and got to try on some of their products. It was a fun girly afternoon with my friend Rosanna. And of course, no event is complete without a goody bag. I’m a big fan of the lipstick, it is very easy to apply and doesn’t dry my lips.

Last Tuesday I went to an early morning tasting at Frozz. I love their frozen yogurt and this time I got to try their dairy free versions. My favorite was their coconut frozen yogurt. It was really delicious and incredible creamy. I was sitting next to the daughter of the owner and it was really nice to hear how passionate they are about the quality of their products and creating new recipes.

On Saturday we went to Gouda to look for antique furniture but we had no luck. So we decided to make a pit stop in The Hague before going back home.

We got a bite to eat and went to the Pier to visit my husband´s old friends, who work at the Bungy Jump. This time we didn’t jump but it is a lot of fun if you are ever in Scheveningen. The picture below is a throwback when I jumped with a a dear friend of mine who came to visit from Peru.

On Sunday we went to get ice cream cookie sandwiches at Sillers (First picture). I had been wanting to stop by ever since a friend told me about it a few weeks ago. They were delicious and the girl working there was super nice, especially since I was a bit indecisive with what combination to get. They have different kinds of cookies and ice creams to choose from, as they assemble it in front of you.

Last year I went on G’s Brunch boat with some family and had a great time eating poached eggs & drinking cocktails while cruising the Amsterdam canals. So when I got an invite to come last Tuesday, of course I said yes.

The weather could have not been better either, so I just enjoyed a delicious bloody Mary and some pink lemonade while catching up with some friends. It is a really nice activity, especially if you are visiting Amsterdam.

The boat sails on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00, 12:00 & 14:00. You can check out their website to make a reservation.

On Wednesday I met some friends for cocktails at the Vault Bar at the Waldorf Astoria. Their menu consists of very unique cocktails. You can check more about it on this blog post.

If you follow me on social media, you’ve probably already seen a video I posted of going to the Febo factory and a gym photoshoot. I never got to explain properly what it was. Febo is very famous here for their snack bars and their Dutch croquettes. My friend Paultje, who is a health blogger and model coach from My Model Workout and Lavinia from Lavinia cooks organized the event. He wanted to make a point in having a good balance, that you can lead a healthy lifestyle without depriving yourself. Hence the fast food shots while working out. It was a really cool event and we all had so much fun. You can see the article he wrote plus all the pictures here. And you can check my video here.

It has been crazy lately with work and the renovation of our new apartment. Our weekends mean at least one trip to the hardware store. We still need to paint and place the new floors. Not to mention that we also need to start packing since we need to leave our rental apartment at the end of the month. That’s something I am not really looking forward to and have been postponing since the beginning of the month.

On Tuesday I attended a cake workshop at the Grand Café Krasnapolsky. We were divided into 3 groups and we each made a different dessert. At the end, we were treated to a sweet feast. They placed so many desserts along the marble table we were working on before. A dream for anyone with a sweet tooth!

It was so much fun. And I also got to take some cheesecake back home. It had been a long time since I wore a chef’s coat. I was just looking at my old Paul Bocuse album from the time I was in France in 2006. I can’t believe it was 10 years ago already!

I created a new chocolate recipe for a port campaign. The picture below was the aftermath of the shoot. You can check out the recipe by clicking here.

We had such nice weather on Sunday that we decided to just wander around the city in our bikes. We spotted the Amsterdam flag in the background and I just had to stop to take a picture.

24Kitchen Summer for Food Lovers

IMG_8269

One of the things I love about summer is being outside. After months of cold weather, suddenly everyone is at a terrace or at a park. Last week I attended a gorgeous and very healthy 24Kitchen picnic at Vondelpark. It was the perfect set up. Large cushions on the grass, a long table and lots of dishes and juices to share. It was a lovely afternoon with the perfect weather!
